5 Ways to Manage the Busyness of December (& Enjoy It)
December often feels like a marathon. There’s joy, but there’s also endless to-do lists - gift shopping, work deadlines, family obligations, and the pressure to “end the year strong.”
For busy, ambitious women, this time of year can be especially overwhelming.
I’ve learned that when I take a step back and intentionally manage the festive chaos, December becomes not just bearable, but enjoyable.
Here are five ways I’m making December more manageable this year—and how you can too:
1. Get Creative with Simplicity
Creativity can be relaxing, but that doesn’t mean it has to be complicated.
This year, I’m making a simple wreath for my front door instead of my usual full-on designs.
I’m also reimagining my Christmas tree - one of my houseplants has got huge taking up the space of dining room Christmas tree, so instead of having two trees,
I’m using its decorations to revamp the main tree. Small, creative changes like this are fun and reduce unnecessary stress.
2. Explore New Places
Even when your schedule is packed, a quick trip to a nearby destination can be a game-changer.
I’m planning a visit to Lullingstone Castle this month. It’s close by, yet I’ve never been.
Exploring somewhere new, even for a short time, can refresh your mindset and bring a sense of calm to the chaos.
3. Protect Your Time with Intentional Boundaries
I’ve set aside a couple of “hibernate days” this month - no commitments, no to-do list , just time to relax and unwind.
For ambitious women, protecting your time is essential.
Blocking out these quiet days helps you feel more in control and less drained by the never-ending festive season demands.
4. Reconnect with Nature
I’ve been carving out time for forest bathing in the ancient woodlands near my home.
Twice a week, I take a quiet walk and soak in the stillness of nature.
For working women who spend most of their time juggling tasks, being outdoors can be deeply grounding and restorative - especially during the busy December weeks.
5. Prioritise Rest Over Productivity
It’s tempting to push through long nights and early mornings to “get everything done,” but rest is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.
I’m making early nights a priority this December. Getting enough sleep not only helps you feel less frazzled but also makes it easier to enjoy the festive highlights.
What small, intentional changes could you make this December to feel less overwhelmed and more joyful?
