What If January Wasn’t About Starting Over?

Feeling the weight of New Year resolutions? Here’s why January might be the perfect time to slow down, reflect, and reset - without the pressure to start over.

I know the start of January can feel like a lot. The rush of Christmas is over, but now there’s the aftermath - taking down decorations, recovering from celebrations, and trying to get back into a routine. Add the pressure to “start fresh” with resolutions and new habits, and it can all start to feel a bit too much, can’t it?

I think we’ve all been there: staring at the clutter of holiday leftovers, wondering if we should Marie Kondo the whole house, while simultaneously planning to tackle all our life goals. It’s exhausting before we even begin.

But here’s the thing - what if January wasn’t about doing more? What if it wasn’t about spring cleaning, resetting everything, or becoming a brand-new version of yourself?

Give Yourself Permission to Pause

I know it’s easy to get caught up in the momentum of “New Year, New Me.” But what if we gave ourselves permission to slow down instead? To ease into the year gently, allowing space to rest, reflect, and reconnect with what really matters.

Instead of forcing ourselves into routines that don’t stick, we could focus on recovering from the busyness of the holidays. Taking down the tree and packing up decorations doesn’t need to feel like a sprint - it can be part of the process of reclaiming your space and your energy.

Hibernate Before You Hustle

I think there’s something beautiful about treating January like a time to hibernate. Winter invites us to slow down, rest, and reset—not rush headfirst into endless to-do lists.

Maybe that means taking a little extra time to get back into your routine, saying no to things that don’t feel right, or simply allowing yourself to enjoy the quiet moments. Imagine how much more clarity and energy you’d have if you started the year feeling rested instead of rushed.

Let’s Think About Intentions Differently

I lead the Reflections and Intentions Workshop at the end of January because I believe this: you don’t need to have everything figured out right now. The pressure to map out your entire year in the first few weeks is unnecessary.

Instead, what if we gave ourselves the time to explore what we really want? To reflect on the past year, let go of what no longer serves us, and step into the next chapter feeling grounded.

This isn’t about making a million resolutions or reinventing yourself—it’s about creating intentions that feel good and that work for you.

How Does That Feel?

If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to join me and my special guest Jodie at the Reflections and Intentions Workshop. It’s a space to pause, reflect, and set intentions for 2025 in a way that feels aligned and meaningful

.

Because January doesn’t have to be about starting over. It can be about starting fresh - on your own terms.
